The East Harlem HIV CARE Network
The East Harlem HIV CARE Network was organized in October 1991and became fully functional by January 1992.
The HIV CARE Network is a consortium of agencies and individuals concerned about the provision of services and care to people with HIV/AIDS in East Harlem. The Network aims to improve the availability, accessibility, quality and coordination of services for persons living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Network addresses the needs of the community by:
- Helping to ensure continuity of care for people with HIV/AIDS and their families through the promotion of effective case management.
- Identifying gaps in services needed by people with HIV/AIDS and supporting development of services to meet those needs.
- Promoting coordination and integration of community resources to meet those needs.
- Making recommendations for the best use of Ryan White CARE Act funding in their regions.
- Advocating for needed services and funding.
The East Harlem Network has formulated committees and work groups that meet periodically to address issues and concerns raised in full Network membership meetings usually held monthly.
The Network encourages all concerned parties to participate. Providers of HIV/AIDS services make up the majority of participants however people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWAs), and others directly affected also participate. In fact, their involvement is always sought and encouraged. The Network also enjoys the support of community leaders and elected officials.
