Who is eligible to participate in the HIV/AIDS Information Outreach Project?

The HIV/AIDS Information Outreach Project is a service for AIDS-related, community-based organizations. To be eligible to participate in the Outreach Project an organization must:

  • deal specifically with HIV/AIDS in the scope of its services; and
  • have not-for-profit status.

Currently, services are only available to organizations in the New York Metropolitan Area.

What can I do if my organization is NOT eligible for membership?

Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible for participation in the HIV/AIDS Information Outreach Project. If your organization does not meet the two eligibility criteria, or is outside of the New York Metropolitan Area, the New York Academy of Medicine Library has other options for your organization to benefit from the use of its resources.

I am an individual looking for HIV/AIDS information -- can you help?

Individuals seeking information regarding HIV/AIDS should visit, or contact the New York Academy of Medicine Library. The Library is open to the general public without charge, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

Library and Reference Hours
Directions to Library

A reference librarian is available to assist individuals with research and information needs. Telephone reference service to verify Library holdings, provide brief factual information, definitions, and/or physician information is available by calling (212) 822-7315. Members of the general public are, however, subject to charges for Library services above and beyond basic reference and research consultation.

Library materials do not circulate outside of the building. Photocopy services are available on-site for $0.25/page.

Please also take a look at our Resources listing, including a list of Useful HIV/AIDS Links.

What services are NOT provided by the HIV/AIDS Information Outreach Project?

The HIV/AIDS Information Outreach Project does not provide the following:

  • legal advice or services
  • help with immigration or visa status
  • funding for research or other projects even if they are AIDS-related
  • physician referrals
  • treatment consultation or other direct medical services to individuals

A number of the organizations participating in the Outreach Project can and will provide these services. Please consult our Membership Directory A to Z or our listing of HIV/AIDS Services in NYC to select an organization with services that are appropriate for your needs.
