provides a more hard-core medical perspective on HIV/AIDS. Even so, there is fairly

Action Committee of Massachusetts - Online HIV Health Library
- Founded in 1983, AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts is
a not-for-profit, community-based health organization whose mission is to stop the
HIV/AIDS epidemic by preventing new infections and optimizing the health of those already
infected. The Online HIV Health Library includes links to hundreds of
searchable articles, along with information organized by broad topic. You can also
access the library en Español.

- Presents federally approved information on HIV/AIDS
treatment and prevention guidelines, a comprehensive database of HIV/AIDS clinical trials,
vaccines, and information about approved and experimental HIV/AIDS drugs. The site's
Education and Resource Center contains downloadable resources specially designed for
patients and the general public, researchers, health care providers, and students.

Fact Sheets
- The New Mexico AIDS InfoNet is a project of the New Mexico AIDS Education and
Training Center in the Infectious Diseases Division of the University of New Mexico School
of Medicine. The InfoNet was originally designed to make information on HIV/AIDS services
and treatments easily accessible in both English and Spanish for residents of New Mexico.
It has become an international resource for information on HIV/AIDS. The site
provides one page fact sheets written in non-technical language at the 8th or 9th grade
reading level. All fact sheets are also available en Español.

Knowledge Base
- A standard reference source in print, the Web version
provides search capabilities making it easier to pull together diverse sections on the
same topic. Almost the entire publication is available at this site, including
charts, figures and other graphics. Clinical aspects of the virus and the disease
are covered thoroughly with additional sections on legal issues and prevention and
education.

Network
- Provides extensive coverage of clinical trials, medication
and treatments for both AIDS and opportunistic infections. This site also includes
information on alternative treatments, and an extensive list of links to other clinical

Prevention Information Network (NPIN)
- Formerly called the CDC National AIDS Clearinghouse.
A variety of materials are covered on this site, most of which are produced by the CDC
and/or other health-related government agencies. NPIN also provides access to a
number of AIDS-related database covering such topics as education, health care, social
services, news, and funding. Here, too, are online versions of various sets of
published CD guidelines. Links to other sire cover a wide variety of topics, and,
overall, is fairly extensive. Some information is available en Español.

for AIDS Prevention Studies
- Also known as CAPS, the California-based Center has made a
great deal of information about its program available via the Internet. Materials
include descriptions, photos, evaluation results, and some full curricula, as well as a
"Prevention Toolbox" with additional information on developing and evaluating
prevention programs. The list of links available from this site is quite extensive,
as is the information made available en Español.

Studies, New York-Presbyterial Hospital
- The Center for Special Studies is a designated AIDS health
care facility. They have created several documentary videos available, including "Don't Shut Me Out: HIV+ Parents
Struggling with Disclosure."
- Coming
into View: Women, Families & AIDS -- Photographs by Mary Berridge
- Mary Berridge interviewed mothers with AIDS and their
children and photographed them. This site is an archived gallery of several of her
photographs.

- From the University of California at San Francisco, this
site has information on everything from adolescents to xenotransplantation. A very
complete source for basic information, news, and recent research updates.

Medication Guide
- Provides information such as medication schedules,
pathology, drug interactions, and patient drug information pamphlets. The site comes
to us from two Canadian pharmacists, and is supported by a number of major pharmaceutical
companies. Much of the interaction information on the site is fairly technical, with
the exception of the information for patients, which provides more of a balance for
clinicians and consumers.
- Ineternational
Association of Physicians in AIDS Care
- An organization of health professionals, it provides a view
of AIDS from a global perspective. The association's monthly newsletter, IAPAC
Monthly, is available full-text online and includes articles on patient care,
policy issues, and other AIDS-related information. They also make a number "HIV
Care Tools" available with publications geared toward both the physician and the
patient.

- An archived site of an Internet magazine for

medical societies and targeted to patients. Their HIV/AIDS information includes

which of four levels each bit of information is geared towards: introductory health
info, general health info, advanced resources, professional/research.

- The National Library of Medicine's MedlinePlus is a great
consumer health resource. It includes extensive information from the National
Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases and conditions and
includes lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia, a medical dictionary,
prescription and non-prescription drug information, and more. MedlinePlus has interactive tutorials on a
huge variety of topics. MedlinePlus is also available en Español.

HIV/AIDS Homepage
- Medscape offers specialists, primary care physicians, and other health
professionals integrated medical information and education tools. Includes details
about CME, conference coverage, patient education, and resource listings in the section
called "library." The site requires a one-time FREE registration.

Mortality Weekly Report
- Prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
this site is a good source for statistics for the United States, with additional links to
statistical sources for the rest of the world. This site also has data on disease
trends, and fact sheets for health issues that have been covered in the MMWR.

this site also includes clinical trial and treatment information from the U.S. Public
Health Service. Tutorials for searching the National Library of Medicine's AIDS
databases are available through this site, as is access to NLM fact sheets, manuals and
bibliographies.
- Substance
Abuse Treatment Locator
- The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides
this on-line resource for locating drug and alcohol abuse treatment programs. The
Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator lists: Private and public facilities that
are licensed, certified, or otherwise approved for inclusion by their State substance
abuse agency AND treatment facilities administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs,
the Indian Health Service and the Department of Defense.

Clearinghouse
- Hosted by Bailey House, the TA Clearinghouse website is a
service for New York City community-based AIDS organizations, and people living with
HIV/AIDS. It includes a Guide to Technical Assistance and searchable databases of
technical assistance providers, other TA and HIV-related resources, funding alerts for
HIV/AIDS service organizations, and a job bank.

United Nations Programme on AIDS
- A good source of information and statistics on the
International HIV/AIDS situation, in addition to some rather bare-bones information about
the organization itself. The "Information" and "Documents"
sections are extremely valuable resources with almost all of the documents available
full-text. There is also a graphics library containing Power Point presentations.
Selected publications are available in languages other than English.
- USAID
Health: HIV/AIDS
- This site is especially useful for international
organzations. Includes statistics on the global AIDS pandemic, along with resources
on treatment, prevention, care and support, monitoring, and research. USAID also has
a monthly e-newsletter detailing its HIV/AIDS activities around the world. Use the
menu under HIV/AIDS on the right side of the page to navigate.
